G2 Esports has unveiled the G2 Performance Lab, a research and innovation platform backed by Red Bull. The initiative aims to embed scientific methods within the organization's competitive teams and to share its findings with the wider industry.
The project is led by Ismael Pedraza-Ramirez, a performance coach and researcher specializing in esports psychology, notably affiliated with the German Sport University Cologne, where he has co-authored several studies on mental health and coaching in competitive gaming. He works under the supervision of Julius Ylänne, a G2 executive responsible for steering the organization's performance strategy.
Based in Berlin, the lab is built around four pillars:
- Coaching and coach development
- Training design and delivery
- Player development
- Performance health and support systems.
The stated ambition is to extend these learnings to G2's 14 rosters, which do not all have full-time dedicated performance coaches, and to contribute to the sector through academic publications and conferences.

G2 will collaborate with leading institutions such as the German Sport University Cologne and Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The first project, titled "A Space for Leaders," focuses on leadership development within the staff.
G2 CEO Alban Dechelotte sought to place the project within the organization's broader philosophy:
"The real challenge isn't building one great roster, it's building a culture capable of producing greatness season after season. At G2, we're not in the business of standing still: we push boundaries, we learn, we reinvent ourselves, and then we do it again. Investing more deeply in R&D to keep evolving how elite performance is built, whether in esports or sports, is our way of always chasing that extra 1%. And this is just the beginning."
